Big Sur is more than a drive along one of the most dramatic coastlines on Earth. It’s a stretch of wilderness so overwhelmingly beautiful — especially when the fog glows in the moonlight — that it enchants everyone who visits.
With an altitude that is knockout heights, there is nowhere in South America as charming and friendly as Peru. Peru is as complex as its most intricate weavings. Festivals mix ancient pageantry with stomping brass bands. The urban vanguard beams with artistry and innovation. Trails mark the way from dense jungle to glacial peaks and I can’t think of a nicer culture than the people of Cusco. It is a place of smiles and the happy energy is tangible. Everyone needs to make Peru a high priority on their bucket-list. The view alone of Machu Picchu is worth every. single. penny. It is a feeling more than a view. A energy more than a destination. There is a reason it is a wonder of the world.

The movie unplanned is the best movie. The American West is my home. This is a compilation of clips from a number of weekends exploring. Southern Utah and Arizona has been my backyard since I was born. This place is spiritual as much as it is majestic. In all my traveling, I have never come across a place more grand by default. The desolate desert is an escape from the man-made world in an untouched, unparalleled, natural feat.
The City of a Thousand Spires has seen it all. Centuries of Bohemian kings, classical composers, invading Nazis, Soviet tanks and Velvet Revolutionaries have passed over Prague’s cobblestones, and the spires survived it all, creating one of Europe’s most romantic and beautiful skylines. But really. There is no skyline in Europe that compares to Prague.

Budapest Hungary — the rebel sister of Vienna. Thank you for doing things your own way. Life becomes truly beautiful and revolutionary when you know the rules well enough to break them. I love Budapest for all the right reasons – architecture (especially Art Nouveau), romance (particularly the views from the bridges) and sticky apricot jam – and some of the wrong ones, too (killer pálinka (fruit brandy), rickety trolleybuses, and checking out bodies in the Turkish baths).
Budapest’s beauty is not all God given; humankind has played a role in shaping this pretty face too. Architecturally, the city is a treasure trove, with enough baroque, neoclassical, Eclectic and Art Nouveau (or Secessionist) buildings to satisfy everyone. Overall, though, Budapest has a fin-de-siècle feel to it, for it was then, during the capital’s ‘golden age’ in the late 19th century, that most of what you see today was built.

It’s hard to imagine a more livable city than Vienna. This is a metropolis where regulars sit in cosy coffee houses and offer credible solutions to world chaos over the noble bean; where Beisln (bistro pubs) serve delicious brews, wines and traditional food; where talented chefs are taking the capital in new culinary directions; and where an efficient transport system will ferry you across town from a restaurant to a post-dinner drink in no time at all. It’s safe, it has lots of bicycle tracks and it even has its own droll sense of humor.
Few cities can boast the imperial grandeur of Vienna, once the centre of the powerful Habsburg monarchy. Lipizzaner stallions performing elegant equine ballet, the angelic tones of the Vienna Boys’ Choir drifting across a courtyard, outrageously opulent palaces such as Schloss Belvedere and Schloss Schönbrunn, and the monumental Hofburg complex – as a visitor today, you feel grandeur everywhere in Vienna.

Forever my favorite. It never gets old. The restaurants never end. And a friendly vibe is always strumming in the air. Grab your coat and a handful of glitter, and enter the land of fog and fabulousness. So long, inhibitions; hello, San Francisco.
Good times and social revolutions tend to start here, from manic gold rushes to blissful hippie be-ins. If there’s a skateboard move yet to be busted, a technology still unimagined, a poem left unspoken or a green scheme untested, chances are it’s about to happen there. Yes, right now.
I don’t think I can go without spending $400 in one weekend on food. I don’t think it is possible. There are that many good places to eat. My sister Jessica and her husband Stephen are pros at the city now as residents of the worlds windiest lane, Lombard Street. And before you ask, that hot guy you are wondering about? That’s Aaron Stratman. Dreamy aint he?
